KAN-therm Push coupling
A KAN-therm Push coupling joins PE-Xc and PE-RT pipes in a sliding-sleeve system that seals without rubber O-rings. It is used where a heating circuit, underfloor loop or domestic hot-water line must be extended, reduced or taken out to a thread. The joint is made after the pipe end is expanded: the spigot is inserted to the collar and the sleeve is slid on with a press tool. Leak-tightness of a joint that often stays in the screed depends on matching diameter, body material and sleeve type. Before ordering, check the pipe marking against the coupling size.
Main types of KAN-therm Push couplings
An equal coupling joins two pipes of the same outside diameter and wall thickness. A straight KAN-therm Push connector is used on straight runs, for circuit repairs and when joining coils. A reducing coupling changes diameter within the Push range, for example when a 25 mm main steps down to 18 mm. It is preferred to a chain of adapters when both ends must take a sliding sleeve.
Threaded couplings form a separate group. A male-thread version connects the polymer pipe to a manifold, valve or steel assembly. A female-thread version with a collar suits a union nut and fittings with parallel pipe thread. The thread is sealed separately: the pipe-to-spigot joint is sealed by the sliding sleeve and does not need PTFE tape.
Materials and construction
Bodies are moulded in polyphenylsulfone (PPSU) or machined in brass. PPSU does not corrode in chlorinated water and suits concealed heating and hot-water runs. Brass is the practical choice on threaded transitions and where the joint is mechanically loaded. The sliding sleeve is brass or PVDF: the brass sleeve is asymmetric and is placed with the chamfer toward the fitting, while the polymer sleeve is usually symmetric. The sleeve must match the pipe diameter; on some items it is ordered separately.
Where a KAN-therm Push coupling is used
The system is used in underfloor heating, radiator circuits and cold and hot water in residential and commercial buildings. According to the manufacturer, a joint without O-rings may be embedded in floors and walls. Working temperature and pressure depend on the application class and the pipe: continuous duty should not be confused with a short peak temperature. Exact limits should be checked on the data sheet of the specific fitting and pipe.
How to choose the coupling
Start with the pipe marking: 12×2, 14×2, 18×2.5, 25×3.5 or 32×4.4 mm. A coupling for 18×2 pipe and one for 18×2.5 are not interchangeable without a dedicated reducer. Then decide whether the joint is equal, reducing or threaded, and whether the sleeve is included. PPSU bodies need the correct press inserts. Price depends on material, diameter and whether a thread is included.

FAQ
Can a KAN-therm Push coupling be embedded in an underfloor screed?
Yes. The Push joint is designed for concealed installation: sealing comes from the profiled spigot and the sliding sleeve, not from a replaceable O-ring. Before pouring, the sleeve must be fully home against the collar and the circuit pressure-tested. Sleeve and pipe must match in diameter.
How does a PPSU coupling differ from a brass one?
A polyphenylsulfone body does not corrode in heating and hot-water systems and is suitable for embedded runs. Brass is more often used for a threaded transition to a manifold, valve or steel fitting. Both work with PE-Xc and PE-RT pipes of this system.
Is the sliding sleeve included with the coupling?
Not on every item. Some connectors are supplied without a sleeve, which is then selected separately in brass or PVDF for the pipe diameter. Check the kit before ordering, or the installation will stop for a missing part.
Will an 18×2 coupling fit 18×2.5 pipe?
No. Wall thickness is part of the joint designation. A dedicated transition exists for joining an older 18×2 section to current 18×2.5 pipe. A standard equal coupling will not make that joint.
What tool is required?
A pipe cutter, an expander and a press with a sliding fork for the diameter. For PPSU sizes 12–25 mm, the fitting side needs inserts intended for the polymer body; the sleeve is pushed until it stops at the collar, and two sleeves are never pressed at once. The joint cannot be dismantled and reused.
